Ballet Kelowna, under the leadership of Artistic Director and CEO, Simone Orlando presents signature contemporary works by Canada’s finest choreographers. With recent debuts at Toronto’s Fall for Dance North Festival and the China International Performing Arts Expo in Beijing, the Company has toured to over 60 cities in Western Canada. Repertoire includes the acclaimed full-length ballet A Streetcar Named Desire by John Alleyne, plus a number of commissioned works by Gioconda Barbuto, Alysa Pires, Wen Wei Wang, and others

Officer of the Order of Canada and Knight of the Ordre national du Québec, Margie Gillis is one of the most influential Canadian choreographer/dancer of the 20th and 21st centuries. Her works portray human weaknesses and vulnerabilities. They celebrate our hopes and the power of creation and healing.

This creative artist and spokeswoman who’s work received a UNESCO label, is committed to drawing a connection between individual memories of the present and the collective memory of the past. Her documentary-dance approach breaks barriers and gives a voice to the silenced.

Shantala Shivalingappa is a master of the vibrant, graceful and expressive southern-Indian classical-dance form Kuchipudi, and is dedicated to bringing this unique and timeless art form to western audiences. She has also appeared in the works of several contemporary choreographers, including Pina Bausch, and theatre directors, such as Peter Brook. She brings this varied background to her dancing, which is powerful, pure, light, and animated from within. Shantala is the only Kuchipudi dancer who was awarded a «Bessie» Award.

A true dance phenomenon, ZEUGMA DANCE combines the step dancing and percussive dance with contemporary dance, creating an explosive movement vocabulary and a distinctive choreographic identity.
